Homecoming in Port Washington for 2016 took place October 14th.  After a week full of fun events at local schools, the Homecoming Parade signified the beginning of the Friday evening events; the parade, a tailgate party at the High School and of course, the Friday night football game. Here’s photos from the parade.

Fish Day Morning – 2016

Fish Day morning sunrise by James Meyer Photography

The 2016 edition of Port Washington’s Fish Day began with a magnificent sunrise which filled and already busy marina with a warm golden glow.  Visitors from near and far flock to what is billed as the Worlds Largest One Day Outdoor Fish Fry.  The very first Fish Day, August 21, 1965 featured deep-fried fish and chips, beer and soda which is pretty much the menu for the current version of Fish Day. Enjoy the view from the marina Download…

Property Photographer

Port Washington WI victorian dining room by James Meyer Photography

When I photograph a home, I merge several shots into one final image. This is known as HDR. For each view I always shoot 5 images, 1-stop apart with OCF (Off Camera Flash) when a window is present, 3, 1-stop apart when a window is not. I shoot 5 when a window is present to get the right exposure for the outdoors. I don’t want an over saturated dark outdoors, nor do I want an overexposed, too bright outdoors….

Strawberry Moon

Full moon arives June 20, 2016 featuring the iconic Port Washington WI lighthouse

The 2016 June full moon, also knows as the Strawberry Moon occurred on June 20th which was also the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. Moon rise was 8:37pm with sunset occurring right about the same time, at 8:36pm I choose to photograph the moonrise from the familiar surroundings of the Port Washington Marina.  Based upon the relative location of the moonrise and it’s proximity to the iconic art deco lighthouse, I knew I could get both…

Quiet Night in Coal Dock Park

Coal Dock Park Night Photography Shoot It was a warm(ish) early February night, one that cannot be spent inside doing nothing, so out I went outside looking to take some photos. I headed to Coal Dock Park, in my hometown Port Washington. The wind was calm. The waves were gently rolling,  Geese were honking and the occasional fish slapped the calm surface of Lake Michigan.  Coal Dock Park is a relatively new park which projects from the shoreline into…

Sunrise at Negative Six

Sunrise January 18 2016 by James Meyer Photography

Wow!  Arctic Steam Fog! That about sums up the sunrise on the Port Washington, WI. breakwater this morning.  The cold, arctic air pushed the temperatures well below zero.  At those temperatures the “steam fog” rising from the lake is really thick.  As easy as it might be to enjoy from the comfort of a warm vehicle, nothing, in my opinion, compares to the experience of being “out there in the elements”. The breakwater is composed of several segments.  The…

On The Edge

On The Edge by James Meyer Photography in Port Washington

“On the Edge” North Beach, Port Washington, WI., January 15, 2016 I call this shoot “On the Edge” as I was literally on the edge of Lake Michigan for all these shots.  At one point when some higher waves reached up and grabbed me.  On the Edge also refers the natural elements of these images.  The sea and land meet.  Temperatures rise and dive, dancing above and below the freezing mark. Port Washington West Slip

The West Slip in Port Washington WI is one of my favorite places to shoot a sunrise. I like using the framing of the buildings in the composition of the shot. Fortunately, the buildings also provide a good wind break which is handy on chilly mornings.  This particular morning it was about 17 degrees at sunrise but the sunrise was just too beautiful and I had to venture out and catch it. November Sunrise in Port Washington

Sunrise, each and every one of them is special.  Add the element of water, clouds, fog and you have something extra special.  It’s been a while since I’ve taken sunrise photos on the breakwater in Port Washington, WI.  On this particular November morning, the air temperature was 16 degrees which, when it’s that cold, if the wind is low, a gentle fog rises from Lake Michigan’s warmer waters. Prints are available.  Please click here for sizes and pricing.

Benches on the Bluff

My hometown Port Washington, WI has a huge bluff that towers high above the beaches that hug Lake Michigan 50 or more feet below.  This area on top of the bluff is called Upper Lake Park.  Along the bluff are several groupings of benches and picnic tables.  Some groupings include one bench, some two, some a bench and a table, or two benches and a table.  Many have a dedication plaque.  It’s easy to imagine those of the past…
