Homecoming in Port Washington for 2016 took place October 14th. After a week full of fun events at local schools, the Homecoming Parade signified the beginning of the Friday evening events; the parade, a tailgate party at the High School and of course, the Friday night football game. South Beach in Port Washington, Wisconsin seems to be missing. A combination of high water levels in Lake Michigan and a fog clinging to the water surface has suffocated the beach.
The 2016 edition of Port Washington’s Fish Day began with a magnificent sunrise which filled and already busy marina with a warm golden glow. I found myself out and about very early this morning. Late last night thunderstorms pushed through the area. When I awoke at 3am my dog, like many dogs, was panting and pacing and showing his dislike for the thunder and lightening. The 2016 June full moon, also knows as the Strawberry Moon occurred on June 20th which was also the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. Moon rise was 8:37pm with sunset occurring right about the same time, at 8:36pm I choose to photograph the moonrise from the familiar surroundings of the Port Washington Marina. Pirate Fest returned to Port Washington after a several year absence. Held June 3-5, 2016 the event featured pirate reenactments, knife and axe throwing, musket shooting, and of course, food and drink. For the kids, there was a bouncy house. Vendors lined several sections of the marina with a wide selection of eclectic goodies to browse and buy. The picturesque Port Washington Marina provided the perfect backdrop for the festival. Huge waves on Lake Michigan were pounding the breakwater in Port Washington WI. On a late February day a blizzard hit the eastern side of Lake Michigan bringing snow to Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. Wisconsin was on the northern and westerly edge of the blizzard and escaped the snow. Winds were very strong out of the northeast gusting into the 45-50pmg range for much of the day. Wow! Arctic Steam Fog! That about sums up the sunrise on the Port Washington, WI. breakwater this morning. The cold, arctic air pushed the temperatures well below zero. At those temperatures the “steam fog” rising from the lake is really thick. It was a bitterly cold morning on January 12, 2016 which, when dressed warmly, with plenty of layers, it’s a perfect time to take great photos of “Steam Fog”.
