Port Washington Pirates Midshore vs Howards Grove

The Port Washington Mid Shore team took on Howards Grove at Memorial Park in Howards Grove Wisconsin. The late May game was highlighted with 4 home runs, 3 for the Port boys, 1 for Howards Grove.  For the Pirates, Hunter, Elliot and Will each hit a home run.  The Port bats were definitely the highlight of a 12-8 Port win on a fantastic late spring evening.

Huge Waves on Lake Michigan

Huge waves on Lake Michigan by James Meyer

Huge waves on Lake Michigan were pounding the breakwater in Port Washington WI. On a late February day a blizzard hit the eastern side of Lake Michigan bringing snow to Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.  Wisconsin was on the northern and westerly edge of the blizzard and escaped the snow.  Winds were very strong out of the northeast gusting into the 45-50pmg range for much of the day. These winds whipped Lake Michigan into a frothing frenzy, which crashed…

MPTV Great TV Auction Featured Artist Interview

Inverview with Tiffany Pua of MPTV and James Meyer

What a great experience!  The MPTV Great TV Auction crew interviewed me at the Port Exploreum interactive museum in Port Washington WI on Friday, February 19, 2016. I’ve never done anything like this. Well, I did an interview with a local TV reporter a few years ago so I guess that’s somewhat the same but that was really an impromptu thing in which the Mayor called me up and asked if I could meet a Milwaukee TV News reporter…

South Beach Black and White

Power Plant in Wisconsin

Winter Beach in Port Washington Wisconsin by James Meyer Photography It finally warmed up, in a manner of speaking, to a delightful 20 degrees.  After many days of temperatures in the single digits and wind chills well below zero, 20 degrees with no wind felt almost balmy, almost.  What do you do in warm weather?  That’s right, head to the beach. This morning at South Beach in Port Washington, Wisconsin, the lake was absolutely still.  Spooky still.  No waves,…

Sunrise at Negative Six

Sunrise January 18 2016 by James Meyer Photography

Wow!  Arctic Steam Fog! That about sums up the sunrise on the Port Washington, WI. breakwater this morning.  The cold, arctic air pushed the temperatures well below zero.  At those temperatures the “steam fog” rising from the lake is really thick.  As easy as it might be to enjoy from the comfort of a warm vehicle, nothing, in my opinion, compares to the experience of being “out there in the elements”. The breakwater is composed of several segments.  The…

On The Edge

On The Edge by James Meyer Photography in Port Washington

“On the Edge” North Beach, Port Washington, WI., January 15, 2016 I call this shoot “On the Edge” as I was literally on the edge of Lake Michigan for all these shots.  At one point when some higher waves reached up and grabbed me.  On the Edge also refers the natural elements of these images.  The sea and land meet.  Temperatures rise and dive, dancing above and below the freezing mark. Port Washington West Slip

The West Slip in Port Washington WI is one of my favorite places to shoot a sunrise. I like using the framing of the buildings in the composition of the shot. Fortunately, the buildings also provide a good wind break which is handy on chilly mornings.  This particular morning it was about 17 degrees at sunrise but the sunrise was just too beautiful and I had to venture out and catch it. Shop my gallery!

November Sunrise in Port Washington

Sunrise, each and every one of them is special.  Add the element of water, clouds, fog and you have something extra special.  It’s been a while since I’ve taken sunrise photos on the breakwater in Port Washington, WI.  On this particular November morning, the air temperature was 16 degrees which, when it’s that cold, if the wind is low, a gentle fog rises from Lake Michigan’s warmer waters. Prints are available.  Please click here for sizes and pricing.

USS Milwaukee Visits Port Washington WI

The USS Milwaukee visited just outside the Port Washington WI breakwater on a beautiful Sunday morning in mid-November 2015. The date was November 15, 2015 at 10am. Coal Dock Park was jam packed with people eager to get a few minute glimpse while she slowed down to salute just outside the harbor. While the USS Milwaukee passed by, a 21 gun salute rang out, followed by a magical rendition of Taps. From Port Washington, the USS Milwaukee headed on…
