Wow! Arctic Steam Fog! That about sums up the sunrise on the Port Washington, WI. breakwater this morning. The cold, arctic air pushed the temperatures well below zero. At those temperatures the “steam fog” rising from the lake is really thick. As easy as it might be to enjoy from the comfort of a warm vehicle, nothing, in my opinion, compares to the experience of being “out there in the elements”. At one point when some higher waves reached up and grabbed me. On the Edge also refers the natural elements of these images. The sea and land meet. Birthplace of Flag Day

Stony Hill School in Waubeka Wisconsin is the birthplace of Flag Day. Bernard J Cigrand, a then 19-year-old teacher at the school began specifically honoring the flag at the school on June 14, 1885. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed June 14th as Flag Day. Today the school is a museum and site of annual Flag Day celebrations. The last class was held in the school the same year. The building stood empty until 1952 when restoration was finalized.

Wisconsin is “The Dairy State”. To say farming is big in Wisconsin would be an understatement but we are seeing more and more of the smaller family farms being sold to large “corporate” farms or being sold, the barns and silos leveled, land turned into neat rows of houses.
