Full moon arives June 20, 2016 featuring the iconic Port Washington WI lighthouse

The 2016 June full moon, also knows as the Strawberry Moon occurred on June 20th which was also the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. Moon rise was 8:37pm with sunset occurring right about the same time, at 8:36pm I choose to photograph the moonrise from the familiar surroundings of the Port Washington Marina.  Based upon the relative location of the moonrise and it’s proximity to the iconic art deco lighthouse, I knew I could get both…

Quiet Night in Coal Dock Park

Coal Dock Park Night Photography Shoot It was a warm(ish) early February night, one that cannot be spent inside doing nothing, so out I went outside looking to take some photos. I headed to Coal Dock Park, in my hometown Port Washington. The wind was calm. Birthplace of Flag Day

Stony Hill School in Waubeka Wisconsin is the birthplace of Flag Day.  Bernard J Cigrand, a then 19-year-old teacher at the school began specifically honoring the flag at the school on June 14, 1885.  In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed June 14th as Flag Day.  Today the school is a museum and site of annual Flag Day celebrations.  The last class was held in the school the same year.  The building stood empty until 1952 when restoration was finalized.
