When I photograph a home, I merge several shots into one final image. This is known as HDR. For each view I always shoot 5 images, 1-stop apart with OCF (Off Camera Flash) when a window is present, 3, 1-stop apart when a window is not. I shoot 5 when a window is present to get the right exposure for the outdoors. I don’t want an over saturated dark outdoors, nor do I want an overexposed, too bright outdoors. I want something that looks natural and more true to life. Personally, I like some shadows in the final image. I don’t want a fake, computer looking rendition of a shadowless home. These images is from my most recent shoot, a beautifully restored Victorian in Port Washington, Wisconsin. Love to hear your thoughts on the final image in the comments area below.
