Huge Waves on Lake Michigan

Huge waves on Lake Michigan by James Meyer

Huge waves on Lake Michigan were pounding the breakwater in Port Washington WI.

On a late February day a blizzard hit the eastern side of Lake Michigan bringing snow to Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.  Wisconsin was on the northern and westerly edge of the blizzard and escaped the snow.  Winds were very strong out of the northeast gusting into the 45-50pmg range for much of the day. These winds whipped Lake Michigan into a frothing frenzy, which crashed the western shoreline and anything in her path.  25 foot waves on Lake Michigan hit the Wisconsin shoreline over and over with dramatic results.  Photographer James Meyer of James Meyer Photography captured her energy along the shores, in Port Washington WI. Seen in the photos and video are the Port Washington breakwater and the iconic art deco lighthouse which is a symbol of Port Washington.

I hope you enjoy the photographs and video.  Prints are available for purchase.
